Originally part of the ancient Sabatino volcano, Lake Bracciano lies about 50 kilometres north of Rome, surrounded by gentle hills. Its mild climate makes it popular with both Italian and foreign visitors.
Trevignano Romano is a village on the south facing shores of the lake with a charming medieval centre, a small museum in the town hall, where Etruscan remains found in local necropolises have been thoughtfully displayed, and a pleasant lakeside promenade. It is a good base for walks in the surrounding hills or enjoying various water sports such as windsurfing and canoeing.
